The University of Madras’ syndicate held a six-hour marathon meeting Monday. The meeting was chaired by Vice-Chancellor P. Duraisamy.
It was attended by the outgoing members of the convenor committee, which formally handed over the mantle to the new VC.
Positive move
Members said the Syndicate passed a resolution to increase fee.
“It is a positive move as all the members agreed readily. The fee hike would be around 25 to 30%. The fee revision was made after 17 years,” a member said.
The revision would be implemented after it receives the approval of the Academic Council, the Senate and the Governor-Chancellor.
The younger members said having a VC who had worked in the university helped as there was continuity. The VC presented his vision plan with thrust on paperless and cashless transactions. “He has made a commitment for institutional reform. He has come with a clear plan, a precise target and a goal to achieve. He is technology aware and capable of giving priority to good research,” a member said.
His thrust on online courses and aim to improve enrolment has won him supporters among the members.
