A new train from Palghat to Rameswaram would be introduced after opening of Palghat-Pollachi section, said Sunil Kumar Garg, Divisional Railway Manager, Madurai Division.
Talking to press persons after inspecting Palani railway station on Wednesday, he said that the inspection of Palghat-Pollachi section by the Commissioner for Railway Safety was over. After getting his concurrence, this section would be opened for traffic. Operation of trains would be stepped up in a phased manner, he said.
Referring to the huge rush in all trains starting from Pollachi, he said that the Southern Railway was planning to add more coaches in these trains to ease crowd and accommodate more passengers in Palani. The officials would check the entire track, signal points, level crossings and facilities at prime stations between Pollachi and Dindigul as train traffic would be more after opening of Palghat-Pollachi section, he added. The DRM inspected the booking office, basic amenities, facilities and the quality of food items sold at shops at Palani railway station. He travelled on a special train to check the condition of the track, power supply, signal system and other aspects to ensure safety of passengers. The DRM and his technical team came to Palani from Madurai.
