Nellai Collector inspects anti-dengue operations

January 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

Collector M. Karunakaran inspected the ongoing anti-dengue operations at Melapalayam here on Friday.

After the neighbouring Rajapalayam of Virudhunagar district witnessed dengue outbreak recently, all-out measures are being taken across Tirunelveli district, especially in the areas where poor sanitary condition prevails, to avert possible outbreak here also.

Apart from fogging and sprinkling of larvicidal agents in water, stagnant water in the affected areas is drained and anti-dengue awareness pamphlets are being circulated among the public to protect them from possible infection.

When this exercise commenced at Melapalayam in Tirunelveli Corporation recently, the urban civic body mobilised its workforce to clear the garbage dumped at various places and organised indoor and outdoor fogging, besides sprinkling larvicidal chemicals in the water.

Corporation Commissioner R. Lakshmi was present. After randomly visiting a few places, the Collector held a discussion with the officials who accompanied him.
