A cross-section of villagers of Neduvasal and neighbouring hamlets has planned to intensify their stir against the proposed exploration of hydrocarbon in their village.

At a meeting of representatives of 70 villages held at Keeramnagalam near here on Sunday, the villagers floated a 35-member committee which will be solely responsible for organising the agitation in a phased manner in future. The members represented various villages including Neduvasal, Pullan Viduthi, Vadakadu, Kothamangalam, Keeramangalam, Vembankudi, Payingal, Naadiyam, Anavayal and Karukkakurichi.

A resolution passed at the meeting said that the villagers would stage an agitation in front of the Collector’s Office on July 11 by mobilising a large number of villagers from these hamlets.

T. Pushparaj, district president of Congress committee; C.Ve. Meyyanathan, MLA from Alangudi; Swaminathan, former MLA; Pazha. Tirumurugan, state secretary of Tamizhar Nala Periyakkam; and Raja Paramasivam, former MP, attended the meeting.
