Natarajan remanded in judicial custody

A Judicial Magistrate Court here on Monday remanded M. Natarajan, husband of V.K. Sasikala, in judicial custody till March 19 in a cheating case.

The City Crime Branch (CCB) had registered the case against Mr. Natarajan and six others on a complaint preferred by Varadharajan, a city-based realtor, a few days ago.

Mr. Natarajan who was arrested on a land grab charge and is lodged at n the Central Prison here, was arrested in the cheating case and brought to Judicial Magistrate Court IV from jail on Monday evening.

Speaking to reporters outside the court, Mr. Natarajan said that a false case has been registered against him.

The CCB registered the case under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust) 147 (rioting) 120 (b) (criminal conspiracy) 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (i) (criminal intimidation).

Three persons cited as accused in the cheating case — Chelladurai, Saradha Saran and Ananthakrishnan — were arrested recently and remanded in judicial custody. Natarajan's nephews Kumar and Suresh and Soundaravelan also cited as accused are yet to be arrested.

“File affidavit”

Staff Reporter from Madurai writes:

The Madras High Court Bench on Monday directed Mr. Natarajan to file an affidavit undertaking to remove construction materials stored on a private land, allegedly grabbed by him and six others, as a pre-condition to grant him bail.

Justice T. Sudanthiram asked senior counsel V. Gopinath, appearing for Mr. Natarajan and advocate Veera Kathiravan, appearing for two other accused in the land grab case registered by the Thanjavur police, to file identical affidavits by Tuesday. Of the six accused, who had approached the court, three had sought bail and the rest anticipatory bail.

A bail application filed by the seventh accused is pending before a lower court.
