A team from the National Accreditation Board for Hospital and Services (NABH) conducted a sustainability surveillance inspection at Padmanabhapuram Government Headquarters Hospital in Kanyakumari district on Thursday.
The inspection was conducted to check whether the hospital that was awarded NABH certification on September 24, 2013 was maintaining quality in giving treatment, safety of patients and documentation as per the standard procedures. This is the third government hospital which was awarded NABH ceritification. The other two hospitals were Government Headquarters Hospitals in Sholingar and Namakkal.
The process for awarding NABH certification for 12 other government hospitals in the State were going on, an official from the Tamil Nadu Health Systems Project (TNHSP) said.
NABH Principal Assessor K.R. Reena Kumar from Delhi led the team, which comprised J. Joseph from Kerala and Mustafa Afzal from Hyderabad. The team conducted enquiries with the patients, paramedical staff and the doctors. They also inspected whether the authorities were maintaining MRD indicators, operation theatres, Intensive Care Units and other facilities.
Dr. Reena Kumar told reporters that the team was satisfied with the standards of treatment and the staff ratio. The State government adopted the suggestions for improvements made by the NABH, she added.

The hospital got the Best Government District Headquarters Hospital award from the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry in 2012.
TNSHP State Expert Advisor E. Ilango, District Coordinator Riaz Ahmed, Joint Director Ravindran and others accompanied the team.
