Objects could date back to Vijayanagara period, say officials

The Government Museum, Vellore got a few more exhibits on Tuesday. Three objects that were unearthed at Therku Kollaimedu near Munjurpattu on Sunday were handed over to the museum authorities. K. Saravanan, curator, Government Museum, Vellore said a 70 cm tall statue of Durgaiamman , a Lingam and a ‘bali peetam’ (sacrificial altar) were unearthed from a poramboke land. The ‘bali peetam’ was broken.

“The three objects could be 500 years old belonging to the Vijayanagara period. Following an order by the Collector, the revenue officials handed over the findings to the museum as per the Indian Treasure Trove Act 1878,” he said.
