All shops at Melapalayam remained closed on Monday in protest against the move to shift the Sub-Registrar’s Office in this backward area of the Corporation.

As there is a move to shift the office to some other place, the residents opposed the decision stating that the office, now functioning from a rented building, could be shifted to a government building at Melapalayam itself.

If the administration could not find a suitable building, a land to be donated by a philanthropist could be used for constructing a new building from which the office could function, said the residents.

Since the Department of Registration is yet to announce its decision, all traders downed shutters of their business establishments.
