Chief Minister Jayalalitha on Monday inaugurated through video conferencing, additional classrooms, hostels, and laboratories in the district costing about Rs. 52.17 crore.
Under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) scheme, facilities like girls hostel, 84 additional classrooms in 41 schools at a cost of Rs. 30.71 crore and 34 science laboratories were created in nine blocks in the district.
Girls’ hostel was constructed at Model Schools in Chettimankurichi in Edappadi block and in Kolathur, Government Higher Secondary School in Nadupatti in Kadayampatti block, Nangavalli, Panamarathupatty, Tharamangalam, Pethanaickenpalayam and at Government Higher Secondary School at Yercaud. Each hostel was has an area of 13267.08 sq ft.Officials said that these hostels were constructed in schools that were located in educationally backward blocks in the district so as to encourage more student enrolment.
Hostel
The hostels would facilitate students who have completed Standard VIII from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) run under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).
As many as 900 girl students can be accommodated in these hostels that have 25 rooms each with facilities, including UPS, solar water heater, and television sets.
District Collector K. Maharabushanam was present during the inauguration of the hostel at Government Higher Secondary School in Panamarathupatty. S.K. Selvam, MLA, Chief Educational Officer A. Nyanagowri and others participated.
