Stating that the bund of Mookaneri Lake was encroached upon by an individual with the help of revenue officials, convener of Salem Citizen’s Forum Piyush Manush has demanded that the land be retrieved.
The lake spread across 58 acre in Kannankurichi is maintained by the forum for the past four years by sourcing funds from the public.
Speaking to reporters, here on Tuesday, Mr. Piyush said that Prakash, who resides near the lake, has constructed compound wall for his house in the land belonging to the lake.
A complaint was presented to the then City Police Commissioner A. Amalraj in 2014 stating that the lake belongs to the government and demanded action against the encroachers.
However, no action was taken, he added. He said that Prakash had recently surveyed his land and marked the bound for his property in the middle of the bund.
He has received patta for the encroached land, he added. “Despite submitting a complaint to the anti-land grabbing cell, no action has been taken so far”, he said.
