Tamilisai says she was informed of PM’s intent to visit State

BJP Tamil Nadu unit president Tamilisai Soundararajan on Monday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit the State to lay the foundation stone for the AIIMS facility near Madurai.

However, Dr. Soundararajan did not provide a date for the event, saying that she had only been intimated of the Mr. Modi’s intention to travel to the State.

On Monday, the BJP held a meeting to plan for the party’s national president Amit Shah’s July 9 visit to Tamil Nadu. National general secretary in-charge of the State P. Muralidhar Rao attended the meeting. Dr. Soundararajan said that Mr. Shah’s visit would focus only on the party’s preparation ahead of the general election, scheduled next year.

Apart from meeting Lok Sabha constituency in-charges from Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Shah would meet functionaries of the information technology and media cells of these constituencies.

PMK, BJP cadre clash

Workers of the PMK and the BJP got into a scuffle in T. Nagar here on Monday, when the PMK members attempted to take out a procession towards the BJP’s State headquarters, Kamalalayam, condemning Dr. Soundararajan for her remarks against PMK leaders.

Dr. Soundararajan had recently tweeted, thanking the Centre for deciding to establish an AIIMS facility in Thoppur, Madurai district. Anbumani Ramadoss claimed that the project had come to fruition because of his efforts as Union Minister of Health. When PMK workers wanted to take out a march towards the BJP’s office on Vaidyaraman Street, the police blocked them.

When the PMK workers were being moved into two buses, a few BJP workers came there and picked up a quarrel with them. For a few minutes, tension prevailed in the area, and roads were blocked.
