‘Mobilise opinion against fascist forces’

January 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - TIRUCHENGODE:

The opposition for the book ‘Madhorubagan’ and the agitations against its author Perumal Murugan, were nothing but an act of hitting at the base of the Constitution of the country itself. All the secular and democratic forces should unite and mobilise people’s opinion against the fascist forces which were involved in this act, said Communist Party of India.

The serious agitations launched against the author for the book that was published in 2010 was the handiwork of Sangh Parivar and saffron forces. The agitations even after Mr. Murugan tendering an open apology only confirms this, a resolution adopted at a meeting of the Tiruchengode town unit of the CPI held here on Saturday said.

The main objective of the communal elements was to force the authorities to register a case against Mr. Murugan to create fear in him.

The agreement reached during the peace talks held by the Namakkal district administration was nothing but the refusal of right of freedom of expression of an individual enshrined in the Constitution, the resolution said.

The agreement reached during the negotiations and subsequent decision of Mr. Murugan to desist from writing has caused much pain to the secular forces and the creative writers, the resolution added.
