A mobile clinic has been commissioned to offer treatment to differently-abled children in Erode.

The mobile therapy unit for differently-abled children in Erode commissioned earlier this week by District Collector S. Prabakar is expected to be put to use from the start of July.

The unit equipped with facilities for early diagnosis of physical, vision, mental and multiple disabilities among children in 0 - 6 years age group, particularly in rural parts, would be stationed at primary health centres and anganwadis for diagnosing children and providing counselling to parents, District Differently Abled Welfare Officer Imtiaz Ahmed said.

The unit would serve the families where parents or other adults are unable to accompany children suffering from mental retardation, cerebral palsy, autism, hearing and vision disabilities to early intervention centres on a regular basis.

Early diagnosis and continuous therapy helps in curing disabilities to 90 per cent level and even enrolling such children in normal schools, Mr. Imtiaz said, adding that parents and caretakers would be trained in administering therapy at their homes.

The mobile van would be operated after completion of the registration process to different places with prior information about the schedule, he said.
