Villupuram has got its fifth Industrial Training Institute at Chinna Salem to promote technical education and employment opportunities. Rural Industries Minister P. Mohan inaugurated the ITI in the presence of Collector V. Sampath on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Mohan said that the State government was striving to be in the forefront of education in the country. It was also endeavouring to provide job avenues to technically qualified candidates. The government had sanctioned a sum of Rs. 50 crore during 2013-2014 for enhancing the infrastructure facilities.
He pointed out that already the Employment and Training Department had been running two institutes, especially for training artisans, in Villupuram district. Two more institutes had come up recently at Ulundurpet and Sankarapuram. While the former had seven departments with total student strength of 396, the second one had six departments with total student strength of 220. For the new institute in Chinna Salem, class rooms had been built at a cost of Rs 3.63 crore, hostel buildings at a cost of Rs. 8.80 lakh and machinery and equipment provided at a cost of Rs. 2.60 crore.
Mr. Mohan noted that the government was giving away free laptops, textbooks, uniforms and cycles to each of the students. Besides this a monthly stipend of Rs. 500 was being deposited in individual accounts of the students during their study in these institutes. K.
