Minister extends assistance

Labour Minister S. T. Chellapandian extended welfare assistance to the tune of Rs. 19 lakh to 129 beneficiaries in the presence of Collector Ashish Kumar here on Saturday.

The beneficiaries from construction workers' welfare board received the assistance.

Pension benefits, maternity assistance and other benefits for members of the board had been enhanced in the AIADMK regime. A total of 3,976 persons enrolled in the board benefited from the schemes implemented by the State government so far, the Minister said.

As many as 1,362 members had been enrolled in the board additionally, said Collector Ashish Kumar.

Since it was an autonomous body, the welfare board could cater to the needs of construction workers.

Hence, the workers should make use of such benefits, he added.

Besides, cows (milch animals) were provided to other beneficiaries at a programme held at Inaam Subramaniyapuram in Vilathikulam taluk.

Mr. Chellapandian and S.P. Shanmuganathan, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister gave away livestock worth Rs.9.7 lakh to 26 beneficiaries.

G.V. Markandeyan, Vilathikulam MLA and others attended the programme.
