Milk farmers stage protest

October 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - SALEM:

A group of members of the Erumasamuthiram Milk Producers Cooperative Society, Pethanayakkanpalayam near here, attempted to hand over milk cans containing milk to the officials at the Collectorate here on Tuesday, to protest against the refusal of the society to procure additional milk supplied by them.

The milk farmers said that the society was refusing to accept the entire quantity of milk being supplied by them. The society made it a point to return 100 to 200 ml for every litre of milk.

This was causing much financial loss to the milk farmers.

When the farmers were already suffering financial loss, the refusal of the milk society to procure the entire milk had only rubbed salt into their wounds.

The farmers also demanded that the State Government should hike the procurement price of milk by Rs. 10 per litre.
