‘Merger only if OPS is made CM’

Semmalai takes issue with Edappadi over his achievements

The merger of the two factions of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) is possible only if O. Panneerselvam is made the head of the party as well as the government, said S. Semmalai, former Minister and senior leader of AIADMK (Puratchi Thalaivi Amma).

Speaking to mediapersons at Mettur on Sunday, he found fault with Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami for giving wide publicity to “achievements” made in the first 100 days of his regime. He should have mentioned the one-year achievement of the AIADMK regime, including the rule of late Jayalalithaa, instead of his 100-day achievements. By publicising his 100-day rule, Mr. Palaniswami has only denigrated former CM Jayalalithaa and tried to sideline her achievements, he alleged.

Mr. Semmalai said the government had failed miserably in getting relief for the students of Tamil Nadu from NEET.

He welcomed the scheme of allowing farmers to lift silt from the water spread area of Mettur dam. However, he wanted to know who would monitor its implementation, noting that already, farmers in many areas were complaining that people with vested interests were marketing the silt lifted from the dry water bodies under the kudimaramathu scheme at an exorbitant rate.
