Construction of median on K.K. Nagar main road seems to have narrowed down the road space on several stretches.

The road was recently widened by the State Highways Department. It was aimed at catering to the need of increasing volume of traffic on the road. It had fulfilled the long pending demand of the people of K.K. Nagar area. It had removed the bottleneck to ensure smooth flow.

However, the authorities, as part of the road widening project, have taken up the construction of median on K.K. Nagar main road in order to separate the traffic. Though it was initially considered as essential, motorists feel that the space occupied by the median has constricted the road space to an extent.

They are of the view that the authorities should widen the road further before constructing medians. Though the median was necessary to prevent accident, some felt that the road was not widened enough to provide sufficient space for median.

“The entire stretch of K.K. Nagar main road has a number of commercial shops and establishments on both sides. There was sufficient space to park two wheelers and cars before the construction of medians. Now, we find it difficult to park our vehicles as the medians have occupied considerable space,” says R. Saravana Kumar, a government officer living in E.B. Colony.

He said construction of median was a good move. It would have served the purpose well if provision was made for vehicle parking on both sides. He pointed out that the road was not wide enough in certain stretches preventing free flow of traffic. Road users said that the State Highways should take steps to create more space for vehicle parking. The road should be widened further. If needed, it should carry out eviction drive once again to free the public space occupied by a section of shop keepers.
