All is not well in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu. The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) led by Vaiko, which fought the Lok Sabha elections as an NDA ally, seems to be on a collision course with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) given the contrasting positions it had taken on many issues of State and national importance.

Sources in the MDMK told The Hindu that Mr. Vaiko was “certainly displeased” with the way the Centre had reacted to a number of sensitive issues concerning Tamil Nadu. >The first contradiction of views came as early as during the swearing-in of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May.

Since then, the former MP has opposed the Centre’s decisions on various issues, including its policy on the usage of Hindi in social media, >the celebration of Sanskrit Week in schools , the move to scrap bonus on Minimum Support Price for paddy and the invite to Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit nuclear plants in Kudankulam.
