June 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - PERAMBALUR:

A medical student allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in the women’s hostel of the college at Siruvachur near here on Monday. The victim R. Keerthana (21) was a final-year MBBS student in a private medical college here.

Police sources said the incident came to light after Keerthana’s friend M. Sivasankari came in search of her in the morning.

The sources said Sivasankari found Keerthana hanging from a fan in the TV room inside the women’s hostel and alerted the authorities.

Police believe that Keerthana had resorted to the extreme step after she reportedly failed to clear an exam a few months ago.

A post-mortem was conducted and the body was handed over to her parents.

The victim was a native of Paramathi in Namakkal district.

The Perambalur police have registered a case.
