Mayor says TenderSURE a waste

B.PAC president speaks up in defence of the project

The differences over TenderSURE (Specifications for Urban Road Execution) project came to the fore at a ‘Bengaluru Rising – Aspirations versus Reality’ meeting organised by Bangalore Political Action Committee (B.PAC) on Tuesday.

While Mayor B.N. Manjunath Reddy termed the project wasteful, B.PAC president and Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw defended it and asked him not to speak based on hearsay. Mr. Reddy complained that footpaths were given preference under TenderSURE because of which the road width had reduced. Citing the work on Vittal Mallya Hospital Road, he pointed to the pipelines laid on both sides of the road. “There is no need for the pipelines on the side of Kanteerava stadium,” he said and claimed that he had received a lot of complaints from citizens. Ms. Shaw remarked that he should first accompany them (B.PAC team) for a joint visit to the road.

Later, civic expert V. Ravichandar said that there are no water lines on the stadium side. “There is a power line on that side, which was based on Bescom’s request. The water and sewage lines are only on the hospital side,” he said.

The road has been developed at a cost of Rs. 6.7 crore. .
