May Day celebrated

May Day was celebrated in a grand manner across Kanyakumari district by trade unions affiliated to various political parties.

District organiser of the AIADMK Tamil Magan Hussein led a rally from Anna Kalaiarangam in Vadaseri to the party office in Duthie School Road. Former Minister N. Thalavai Sundaram, MLAs K.T. Pachaimal (Kanyakumari) and Nanjil A. Murugesan (Nagercoil) participated in the rally.

Mr. Thalavai Sundaram fainted shortly after the rally began at Anna Kalaiarangam. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Nagercoil. Sources close to Mr. Thalavai Sundaram said that he fainted since he was a diabetic and had gone to the rally on an empty stomach and added that he had recovered and was doing well.

Former Tourism Minister N. Suresh Rajan of the DMK hoisted the flag at Rani Thottam TNSTC Depot. Trade Unions such as INTUC, CITU, AITUC, HMS too took out rallies. May Day was celebrated at Kulasekaram, Vettunthi at Kuzhithurai, Ranithottam TNSTC depot, Kanyakumari, Suchindrum, Meenakshipuram, Palpannai, Thuckalay, Padmanabhapuram, Monday Market, Colachel, Karungal and Kaliyakkavilai in the district.
