The Salem district registered 90.69 per cent pass percentage in the Plus Two results which were declared on Thursday.
This was 0.84 per cent less than the last year’s achievement. The district registered 91.53 per cent achievement last year.
Of the total of 39,617 students (boys: 19,283 and girls: 20334) of 267 government aided, matriculation and self-financing higher secondary schools, who appeared for the Plus Two examinations held in March, 35,927 (boys: 17,000 and girls: 18,927) came out successful.
The government schools in the district registered a pass percentage of 85.17 per cent, compared to 86.92 recorded last year.
Of the 19,510 students who appeared for the examinations from the government schools in the two education districts of Salem (10,309 student) and Sankagiri (9,201 students), 16,616 boys and girls came out successful. While 8,801 students (85.37 per cent) came out successful in Salem education district; 7,815 boys and girls (84.94 per cent) cleared the examinations in the Sankarigi education district.
P. Usha, Chief Educational Officer (in-charge), who released the results, told presspersons that of the 267 higher secondary schools in the district, 67 schools – government schools - 10; aided schools – 3; and matriculation and self-financing schools - 54 – managed to produce cent per cent results.
The Government HSS at Azhagappanpalayam (132 students); Santhaithanapatti (42 students); Government Model Schools at Taramangalam (30); Kaddaiyampatti (21); Edappadi (18); Nangavalli (two); and Veerapandi (24); Government Adi-Dravida Welfare HSS, Attur (40); Government Tribal Residential School, Velligoundanur (65) and Government Service Home HSS, Suramangalam, Salem city (30) recorded centum results.
