The Special Investigation Team of the State Crime Branch on Sunday detained a man in Kanyakumari who was allegedly in possession of explosive substances that were similar to those found in the pipe bomb planted along the convoy route of BJP leader L.K. Advani, police sources said.
Following a tip-off, the police detained the suspect and found two live detonators, ‘Power Gel 90' explosive material, five kg of Ammonium Nitrate and a circuit board on his premises at Kollangode in Kanyakumari. Enquiries revealed that he was a native of Kulasegarapatnam in Tuticorin and worked abroad for many years. “Investigation is on to ascertain how the explosive substances were found in his house and the motive therein. It is too early to conclude whether the suspect was involved in the conspiracy to blow up the convoy of Mr. Advani. Since there was a call to the police control room in Kanyakumari about suspicious activity in his house, the possibility of a prank cannot be ruled out. The suspect has claimed that he is innocent,” a police official said.
