A 25-year-old Indian Army sepoy was arrested for cheating a young woman into marriage over Facebook friendship in Palacode. The accused, Muthu, originally from Thiruppathur in Vellore was employed in Hyderabad Military Academy, and was already married.
He befriended a 20-year-old college student of Dharmapuri over Facebook and convinced her into eloping with him, even while his wife was alive in Hyderabad. According to the police, the student, a resident of Kelasanahalli in Mahendramangalam was pursuing second year B.Sc. in a private college in Tiruchencode. The woman walked out of her home and married Muthu two months ago, and the couple had set up a home in Hyderabad. In the meantime, Muthu’s first wife Sheela had lodged a complaint with the police. Similarly, the college student’s father had lodged a complaint with Palacode police here. On Inquiry, the police traced the couple to Hyderabad and they were brought to Dharmapuri. Muthu was arrested and remanded in Salem prison.
