A 55-year-old differently abled person was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl here on Friday.
The incident took place on Thursday evening when the girl was playing outside her house. Rajendran of the same area took her to his house and committed the crime.
The girl returned home and informed her parents who in turn lodged complaint with the All Women Police Station in Suramangalam.
A case under Sections 5 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 was registered and he was arrested. He was produced in the court and lodged in Salem Central Prison.
A medical test was performed on the girl at Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital and was sent home.
