The Karaikudi police have arrested a textile shop owner for pasting a picture of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on an undergarment and sending a picture of it to his friends on WhatsApp.

Acting on a complaint from the AIADMK town secretary S Meyyappan, police arrested G Saravanan (43) on Monday.

He was booked under Section 346 of Indecent Representation of Women (Prevention) Act and Section 3 of Harassment of Women Act, police said. He was produced before the Judicial Magistrate court here and remanded in judicial custody .

Police said Saravanan had no political leanings. Interrogation revealed that he was provoked by reports that AIADMK office-bearers were insisting that the relief material should be distributed in Chennai only with the portrait of the Chief Minister.
