Man gets 21 years RI in 2015 murder for gain case

Three other accused sent to Juvenile Justice Board

The Vellore additional district fast track court on Thursday sentenced a man to 21 years rigorous imprisonment in connection with a murder for gain case, that occurred in 2015.

A resident of Keezhvallam village in Vellore, T. Gnanasekaran, along with three other juveniles including his younger brother, had murdered N. Saravanan, a farmer and a micro-financier, from Kaniyambadi Village.

The police said Saravanan, an unmarried man was living with his mother, Amsammal. Tipped off by one of his younger brother’s friend, the accused broke into Saravanan’s house and committed the deed on the night of May 29, 2015.

The gang fled with ₹1 lakh in cash and 25 sovereigns gold jewellery.

No parole

Based on a complaint by the victim’s mother at the Vellore Taluk police station, officials registered a case and arrested all four.

The three juveniles were sent to the Juvenile Justice Board.

Judge S. Gunasekaran sentenced Gnanasekaran with a total of 35 years imprisonment after finding him guilty under Sections 302 (punishment for murder - 14 years), 397 (robbery or dacoity with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt -7 years) and 449 (house-trespass in order to commit offence - 14 years) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

He would have to undergo at least 21 years of imprisonment without parole. The other 14-year term could be served concurrently, the judge added.

The accused was lodged in the Vellore Central Prison.
