The Tirupur North police on Thursday arrested P. Ninkuraj (38), an autorickshaw driver from Bengaluru, on the charges of stealing cheques from courier delivery boys and encashing the same from the respective banks.
Duplicate seals
A total of 10 cheques and large number of duplicate seals of various banks were recovered from the accused.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) R. Thirunavukkarasu told reporters that the accused used to follow the courier delivery boys and steal the covers when they stop the vehicle to deliver some of the covers from among them.

The accused then scratches the original names in the cheques and put his name.
Using the duplicate seals he create the impression of account payee cheques and get it encashed immediately from the counters using peak banking hours, he said.
Two
banks
In the recent days, he encashed two cheques close to Rs. 4 lakh from two banks and he was caught while trying to encash a stolen cheque at Catholic Syrian Bank, said the police officials.
The accused was said to have been arrested for similar type of crime twice at Bengaluru and we are trying to probe more about that, Mr. Thirunavukkarasu said.
