The ‘scheduled duration' of power supply will be restored in a couple of days, according to an official release.
It stated that the State had suffered a loss of 870 megawatt of power due to the breakdown in the production of electricity of several units of power stations in Ennore, Pillaiperumal Nallur, Neyveli, Ramagundam, Kaiga and Talcher. “All these units are likely to resume their production within a couple of days.”
Efforts were on to procure the required quantum of power from the open market and un-requisitioned surplus power of the Central Generating Stations in other regions. Repeated requests had also been made for allotment of 1,000 MW additional power to the State from the Central pool.
Though it had been tied up with Gujarat to get 500 MW round-the-clock power, corridor congestion came in the way of Tamil Nadu fully availing the facility. The State was getting 425 MW for 10 hours and 200 MW for five hours. Steps were being taken to get the entire quantum throughout the day.
Grid discipline stipulations enforced by the Power System Operation Corporation (POSCO) of the Union Government had resulted in increased and unannounced load shedding in some areas, the release said.
