Though the State Lorry Owners’ Federation, Tamil Nadu, welcomed the reduction in diesel price by Rs. 4.09 a litre, it opposed the full de-regulation move as it would encourage private oil companies.
Speaking to The Hindu , its president K. Nallathambi said the price reduction would benefit 2.75 lakh trucks of the State that ply across the country. “It is the need of the hour as the industry is facing difficult times,” he said.
The continuous hike in price of diesel over the past five years has affected the truck industry completely. However, the de-regulation move by the Central Government would only encourage the private oil companies as they fix the price of diesel, he added.
