A 25-year-old man died on the spot when the lorry he was driving overturned at the 25th hairpin bend on Dhimbam Ghat Road here on Monday.

The ghat road from Bannari to Dhimbam has 27 hairpin bends and connects Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The maize-laden lorry from Talavadi was on its way to Palladam.

While negotiating the bend, Mahendran of Sirumugai in Coimbatore district lost control over the vehicle which hit the roadside protection wall.

In the impact, the vehicle overturned and Mahendran died on the spot. Rajendran, cleaner, suffered minor injuries. Hasanur police sent the body to Government Hospital in Sathyamangalam.

As the lorry fell on to the roadside, vehicle movement was not disrupted. A crane was used to recover vehicle.
