AIADMK MLAs on Wednesday sought upgradation of medical facilities in their constituencies and setting up of accident trauma centres. The legislators, who spoke in the Assembly, also sought introduction of new long distance bus routes covering their constituencies.

During the Question Hour, R. Thamizhselvan (Perambalur) urged the State government to upgrade the Elambalur Primary Health Centre.

Mr. Thamizhselvan also said that the place was located close to a highway and accident cases were being rushed to the primary health centre (PHC), which did not have adequate facilities for such treatment.

Perundurai MLA Thoppu N.D. Venkatachalam requested the government to set up an accident trauma care centre in his constituency since it was located close to a four-way highway. Since the hospital present there was constructed some 25 years ago, there was a need to upgrade to meet the present day demands.

J.K.N. Ramajeyalingam of Jayankondam constituency too requested the government to establish an accident trauma centre since there was no orthopaedic surgeon in the hospital.

Health and Family Welfare Minister C. Vijaya Baskar said that the State government was taking efforts to upgrade several primary health centres in various parts of the State and 72 accident trauma care centres were being set up in various places at a total cost of ₹190 crore.

New bus routes

I.S. Inbadurai (Radhapuram) wanted a bus route connecting Nagercoil and Puducherry to stop at Thisayanvilai and wanted a new route between Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala and Athangarai mosque in his constituency. Poompuhar MLA S. Pavunraj called for an air-conditioned bus service between Tharangambadi and Bengaluru. Kattumannarkoil legislator N. Murugumaran wanted a new bus route between his constituency and Velankanni.

Transport Minister M.R. Vijayabhaskar said the State government would consider the representations made in the House. Keeping in mind the increase in diesel prices, the State government would look at the possibility of starting new services in these routes, he added.
