Leaders must meet people, says MLA

October 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - NAGERCOIL:

Peoples’ problems could be resolved only when leaders meet them, said Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) Mahila wing State president and Vilavancode MLA S. Vijayatharini here on Saturday.

Addressing reporters at her residence in Nagercoil, Ms. Vijayatharini said that a State-wide tour of political leaders would let them know issues affecting the public — she was apparently referring to the campaign undertaken by former Deputy Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam treasurer M.K. Stalin.

People were affected owing to rise in bus fare, electricity tariff and milk prices and these kind of basic issues were not addressed by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. People would put an end to anti-people rule in the State in the 2016 Assembly elections, she said.

With a view to strengthen the Mahila wing, and lay emphasis on total prohibition, to urge the government to control spiralling inflation and stress safety of women, she would undertake a three-week State-wide tour, she said. The inaugural function would be held at the party office in Marthandam on Sunday and the tour would end in Chennai on October 21, Ms. Vijayatharini said.

G.K. Vasan visit

Leader of Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) and former Union Minister G.K. Vasan would address party cadres at a meeting in Nagercoil and a public meeting at Market Ground in Karungal on Sunday, party sources said here on Saturday.
