Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Tuesday called Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister of Punjab, over telephone and congratulated him on his victory in the Punjab Assembly elections.
Similarly, she spoke to Mulayam Singh, president, Samajwadi Party, over telephone and congratulated him on his party's victory in Uttar Pradesh, said an official release.
DMK president M. Karunanidhi too congratulated Mr. Mulayam Singh and his son Akhilesh on their party winning the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.
In his message sent to them separately, Mr. Karunanidhi stated that it was not a victory of democracy alone, but a victory of backward and depressed classes.
“You have always been championing the cause of the backward classes and minorities. With your long and varied experience, I am quite confident that you will provide excellent governance to the people of the State,” he said in a message to Mr. Mulayam Singh.
He wished Mr. Akilesh a chain of success in all his endeavours for the better progress of the State.
MDMK general secretary Vaiko conveyed his greetings to Mr. Badal for his consecutive victory in the Assembly elections.
“You have created a record of sorts in the history of Punjab by winning the elections for the second time,” he told him over phone.
