“The law and order situation in the State is causing concern and it is high time the State government took effective steps before it goes out of hand,” said S.R. Balasubramoniyan, former leader of the Congress Legislature Party, here on Tuesday.

Addressing newspersons here, Mr. Balasubramoniyan said everyday, there were reports of robbery, murder extortion and attack on shops. The government should probe whether Tamil nationalist groups such as the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam and the Naam Tamilar were involved in the attacks.

He said film director Seeman, who recently launched the Naam Tamilar movement, had openly advocated separate Tamil Nadu and “instigated” cadre to resort to violence if anyone spoke against Tamil nationalism.
