“Incorporate 49 (O) option in EVMs”

April 30, 2011 02:07 am | Updated 02:07 am IST - CUDDALORE:

With a view to avoiding controversy over exercising the 49 (O) option by the voters and protecting secrecy of voting, this provision should be incorporated in the Electronic Voting Machine itself.

The Consumer Federation, Tamil Nadu has mooted this suggestion in a representation to Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar. Executive general secretary of the Federation M. Nizamudeen said that the present practice of entering the names of the voters who opted for 49 (O) in the registers had created problems to the authorities as well as the voters.
