“Extremism taking deep roots in State”

June 18, 2010 12:28 am | Updated 12:28 am IST - Chennai:

Warning the DMK government that extremism is taking deep roots in the State, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday demanded the arrest of those who blew up the railway track near Villupuram.

In a statement, BJP State president Pon. Radhakrishnan said that the government was clueless on who was behind the blast even six days after the incident.

The varied information provided by State and Railway police personnel clearly indicated that the law enforcing agencies were acting under political pressure, he said. Blasting of a railway track was not a minor incident and the reasons behind the act could be known only by arresting the culprits.

The ruling party should not interfere in police investigation as public safety was paramount, Mr. Radhakrishnan said, pointing out that the BJP had been cautioning the DMK government that the State was slowly turning out to be a den of terrorists.
