Lawyer held for attempt to rape

A lawyer was arrested on Saturday for attempting to rape a 28-year-old woman. Kalimuthu (42) was handling a land dispute case for the victim’s father in Attur. On Friday night, he entered the victim’s house in an inebriated condition and attempted to rape her. She raised an alarm and neighbours rushed to her rescue. They tied Kalimuthu to a coconut tree and informed the police. Based on a complaint, the police registered a case under Sections 294b (uttering obscene words in public place), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 354a (sexual harassment), 354b (assault of woman with intent to disrobe), 506 (i) (criminal intimidation) of IPC r/w Section 4 of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act, 1998 and arrested Kalimuthu on Saturday.
