Law students held for bid to show black flags to Chidambaram

January 12, 2014 10:03 am | Updated May 13, 2016 09:05 am IST - TIRUCHI:

Five students of the Government Law College, Tiruchi, and two former students of the college were arrested when they attempted to show black flags to Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram when he arrived here on Saturday afternoon.

They resorted to the protest to condemn the Congress-led UPA government for “failing” to protect Tamils in Sri Lanka and the continued attacks on Tamil Nadu fishermen.

The incident took place when Mr. Chidambaram arrived here from Pudukottai to take part in a couple of programmes, including a party meeting. A group of students holding black clothes assembled near TVS Tollgate Junction and raised slogans against Mr. Chidambaram.
