PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Saturday alleged that the law and order situation had deteriorated in Tamil Nadu, and that there had been a steady rise in crimes such as murder and robbery.

Expressing concern over the murder of a history-sheeter while in the custody of Tirunelveli police, he contended that there had been a breakdown in intelligence-gathering in the State. “The accused, Singaram, who was believed to have been involved in several crimes, was hacked to death by a gang that came in three cars. The police were incapacitated by the gang. There has been no headway in the case except for the statement that it [the murder] happened owing to previous enmity,” Dr. Ramadoss said, adding, “The intelligence should have foreseen it, but failed.”
