The city police have booked Latha Rajinikanth, wife of actor Rajinikanth, on the charge of forgery and cheating, following a direction by a local jurisdictional court disposing of a private complaint.

Ms. Latha had a financial dispute with Abirchand Nahar of Ad Bureau regarding the post-production work of Kochadaiiyan . Following media reports on the issue, Ms. Latha approached the City Civil Court here seeking an injunction against 76 media publications from publishing anything on the issue.

Mr. Nahar lodged a private complaint with the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court recently, alleging that in her injunction petition, Ms. Latha submitted a forged document to the court. Ms. Latha had submitted an allegedly forged letter in the name of Publishers and Broadcast Welfare Association of India, where the secretary of the association wrote to Ms. Latha that Ad Bureau had approached them with allegations against her and had urged to distribute it as a press note to all media organisations. In his PCR, Mr. Nahar alleged that the association itself was non-existent and hence the letter was forged.
