A few hours after former Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin rounded up his Namakku Naame Vidiyal Meetpu campaign, Thanjavur police slapped a land grab case against former minister and DMK bigwig K.N. Nehru on Thursday.
Incidentally, the development came just ahead of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court was to hear a contempt plea in the case.
According to police sources, the Land Grab Cases Cell, Thanjavur, booked a case against Mr. Nehru, his aides Bharaneetharan and Raja Bhoopathy, based on a complaint from an hotelier Nagarani who had alleged that the trio along with the deceased brother of the former Minister K.N. Ramajayam, had conspired and grabbed her hotel near the New Bus Stand.
Ms. Nagarani had preferred a complaint against the quartet in 2010 but the police had failed to take cognisance of the complaint and refused to file a case. Perturbed, the complainant moved the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court which directed the Superintendent of Police, Thanjavur, to register a case against the four. Ramajayam was murdered and the case remained unsolved yet.
Even after the court directive, the Thanjavur police did not act on Ms. Nagarani’s complaint against Mr. Nehru and the two others following which she again approached the court with a contempt plea which is coming up for hearing, sources said.
