Kurumbars demand issue of community certificate

January 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - PUDUKOTTAI:

Members of the Pudukottai branch of the Tamil Nadu Kurumbar Sangam, along with their family members, submitted a petition urging the district administration to issue community certificate to them without any hitch.

Led by R. Krishnasamy, State president of the association, they said the non-issue of the certificate hindered the educational and job opportunities for the youths of the community. Though they had been classified under the “most backward community”, a few taluk offices in the district refused to issue the certificate, he said in the petition.

M. Andiyappan, State vice-president of the association, said although the revenue authorities in other districts such as Tiruvannamalai and Udhagamandalam had come forward to issue the certificate, only the Pudukottai district revenue authorities refused to issue the certificate.

They submitted a memorandum to S. Ganesh, District Collector.
