What is dairy effluent?

Dairy waste effluent is liquid waste stream which can consist of spilt milk, manure, urine, wash-down water and detergents from milking sheds and processing units

What is co-digestion?

* Co-digestion is an anaerobic (in the absence of oxygen) process where a mixture of two or more substrates (Organic Fraction of Municipal Solid Waste and dairy effluent in this case) containing extractible carbon are used, leading to the production of biogas.

Advantages of co-digestion include increased methane yield, improved performance and easier handling of waste streams. Factors for anaerobic treatment (like temperature, pH and total solids content) are favourable in co-digestion.
