Maintain continued vigil against incidence of avian flu by resorting to practical and efficient measures in poultry farms, District Collector N. Subbaiyan told the officials here.
Chairing a preparedness review meet on preventing incidence of avian flu, Dr. Subbaiyan directed the officials to instruct farm owners to keep the premises clean and hygienic, avoid rearing hen, fowl, and turkey within a single enclosure, disinfect vehicles entering the farm, ensure less human movement and monitor closely the health of the birds in the farm to nip in the bud any trouble.
The Collector had a word of advice for those consuming poultry products counselling them not to eat half boiled egg or raw egg. Consumers must avoid cooking full birds as there was a possibility of all its parts not getting cooked fully giving scope for avian flu threat.
Selva Vinayakam, Regional Joint Director, Animal Husbandry, Assistant Director Nedunchezhian, Joint Director of Health Services Meenakshi, and Assistant Director Subramani spoke.
