Rains on two consecutive days make residents happy

With the mercury soaring over 42 degree Celsius for the past few days, a few spells in some parts of Velore district has cooled down night temperatures. On Tuesday, Kaveripakkam received thundershowers in the evening, which was recorded at 25.4 mm, while Ambur received 11.2 mm of rain till Wednesday morning.

The department predicted similar weather till Sunday, with day temperatures reaching a maximum of 42 degrees Celsius, and night-time temperatures 28 degrees.

Heat wave conditions

The officials attributed the rain to the heat wave conditions prevailing in the region for the past fortnight.

Tirupattur town has been experiencing showers in short spells for the past two days. While it was 2.1mm on Tuesday, on Wednesday afternoon too, there was some rain, which made the water-starved residents happy.

Day temperatures have become too hot to handle in Vellore, Tirupattur, Jolarpet, Arcot and Walajapet. Many residents remain indoors to avoid getting a sun stroke.

Doctors have been advising people to drink more liquids in order to avoid urinary infection and dehydration.

Consumption of fruits like watermelon, musk melon, tender coconut and drinking plain water during daytime would replenish the water loss from the body, they said.
