Arulmighu Veerasakkadevi Amman Temple committee has expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of ‘Kattabomman Vizha’ at Panchalankurichi in Ottapidaram taluk last week. However, the restrictions imposed by police had reduced the flow of participants’ vehicles to the venue this year, M. Muruga Boopathy, president of the committee, told The Hindu here on Sunday.
The festival, which fell on the last Friday and Saturday of the Tamil month of Chithirai every year, was being organised by the State government, through the district administration, as ‘Kattabomman Vizha’ at Panchalankurichi. The committee organised the festival as the ‘59th Veerasakkadevi Amman Aalaya Vizha’ this year.
For other leaders, functions were organised on their birth or death anniversaries but the Kattabomman Vizha was not celebrated to commemorate such occasions. He said the district administration imposed several restriction while organising the celebration at Panchalankurichi. Hence, the temple committee had forwarded a letter to the district administration to organise the festival on January 3 instead of conducting the celebrations simultaneously during the ‘Veerasakkadevi Amman Aalaya Vizha,’ he said.
