Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M.K. Stalin has said that former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi struggled in every stage of his life, right his from childhood to death.

Unveiling the statue of Karunanidhi, who led the DMK for 49 years, at Panneerselvam Park in Erode on Sunday, Mr. Stalin said the late leader’s struggle started when he was refused admission to a school in Tiruvarur.

Highlighting various agitations that Mr. Karunanidhi spearheaded in his life, Mr. Stalin said that even after his death, he struggled for six-foot of land to be buried next to his mentor C.N. Annadurai on the Marina beach.

“The AIADMK government refused land for Karunanidhi who served as Chief Minister five times,” he said recalling that only after a legal struggle they were able to get a place for him to rest.

He said it had been two years since former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa died. But her party even failed to organise a condolence meeting for her.

In contrast, the DMK had conducted condolence meeting for Karunanidhi in which not only State and national leaders participated, but people from all walks of life took part.

He said that statues of Karunanidhi would be unveiled across the State in a phased manner after getting necessary permission from the government.
