DMK leader M. Karunanidhi’s daughter S. Selvi on Friday appeared before the judicial magistrate in Poonamallee in connection with a criminal case on land grabbing. The Supreme Court recently directed her to face trial.

The case pertains to a complaint filed by V. Nedumaran, alleging that Ms. Selvi and her son-in-law V.M. Jyothimani cheated him over a purchase of a 2.94-acre property at Chengalpattu in Kancheepuram district.

According to the complainant, Ms. Selvi and her son-in-law entered into an agreement for sale on July 5, 2007, for a total consideration of ₹5.14 crore. The complainant alleged that they received an advance of ₹3.5 crore, but later failed to sell the property or return the advance.

Mr. Nedumaran also alleged that Ms. Selvi, along with others, physically assaulted him and issued death threats to him for demanding a refund of the advance.

Judicial magistrate Gurulakshmi recorded the appearance of Ms. Selvi and her son-in-law and posted the matter to May 25 for further hearing.
